It's the cruelest month

T.S. Eliot wrote:
April is the cruelest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.

Do you think he might really have meant March, but that April just sounded better?

Today's pictures are of the great meltdown and our creek flooding after the rain. Cruel indeed, but we need to get through mud season to reach spring.

No red-winged blackbirds yet. Last year at this time they'd been here a week. The snow is melting late. But at last it is melting.

  1. I agree Yvonne,
March can be cruel! Much more so than April. It's the tease that gets me! We get a day of sunshine, just a bit warmer than it has been and then back to freezing temps. With the weather we have coming you'll have to get your ice skates out and enjoy the rink you're going to have!!! Me too!!! If only I had ice skates!!! It wont be long and you'll get those red-wings, get out the binoculars!!

  2. Hi Eve: We went out this morning, and the red-wing blackbirds are finally here! Now I can celebrate the first day of spring.

But it's very cold again. Two-steps forward, one step back...typical spring.

  3. I call it Farch, the interminable month from 1 Feb to 31 March...but April is cruel because so much of the world really IS into spring, while we'll still be in the cold yucky zone. Argh!
