Meet the culprits...the bulb thieves

They look pretty cute, these chipmunks, but they are systematically clearing my garden of all of its crocus and tulip bulbs. I keep finding holes they've dug everywhere around the house.

Our house is on a hill, and our patio is terraced with large rocks. Unfortunately, it's perfect chipmunk habitat, and I guess the thing to do is plant more daffodils, which I'm told they don't touch.

  1. Oh those pesky little critters! Or Yvonne...you could get some GUINEAS!!! Ha Ha!! They'd take care of those little guys...chase them right out of town!

  2. Cute but devious! And that's what we have to be to outwit them. You know they're related to the equally devious "skwerls".

  3. i think chipmunks and squirrels are garden designers at heart. the squirrels are always moving my bulbs around and even bringing in bulbs from neighbouring yards. I'll testify to the strategy of planting more daffodils. I put in dozens last fall and had my best tulip display in years this spring.

  4. They are awful little beasts. We were over-run by bulb-eating chipmunks, but since our chipmunk-catching cat joined our family last year, they have fled the property.

  5. Those cute little critters can be so vexing, can't they. Have you tried bone and/or blood meal when you plant? This is supposed to deter animals from digging up and eating the bulbs.
