Did we ever get rain today!

I had been hoping for rain to give us some relief from a dry couple of weeks, and our current heat wave. Well, it rained, and how!

Creek banks flooding onto our property

Our little bridge across the creek under water

This was the scene following two and a quarter inches of torrential rain (and a bit of hail) that came down during the lunch hour. As always, the creek flooded and the lowest part of our property near the road is under water. By evening, it should be cleared, unless we get another thunderstorm.

The storm brought so much rain in such a short time that a road near us washed out in an area where they had just added a culvert and some gravel, but hadn't yet replaced the black-top paving. No damage here, but the petunias in my containers have been flattened. A small price to pay for much-needed rain, and they will perk up again.

Wow I didn't realize it rained that much... but I did have 2 1/2 inches in the bottom of the green bin left open after it was emptied today... guess your photos show the damage that amount of rain in such a short time can do (YCSWID)

  2. We could sure use that here Yvonne! Except no hail please! I still don't have a garage for the vehicles and the hail can get pretty big and damaging! I'm keeping the new plants watered but it's hard to keep up. The rest are going to have to fend for themselves.

  3. Wow, you really got it!
Amazing how the storms act - again maybe something to do with the lake? I watched the lead-grey clouds hoover and threathen, the unbearable heat, lightning to the North, West, and South of us. Then just after lunch the rain started - and it stopped just as sudden. We got less than 1 mm. During last night though we had a very bright and loud thunderstorm and got 20 mm of water.
