Blooming this January 15 (can you believe the month is half over already) is this gorgeous amaryllis. This is its second flower stem. The first one did its festive duty over Christmas week and lasted beyond New Year's. This wonderful flower is a cheery sight during our current deep freeze. Tonight's low predicted low: -20 degrees C (around 2 F). Brrrr, that's cold.
PS: I don't want to admit it, but there are still three Christmas poinsettias on the window bench - the kind that had gold glitter sprayed on the bracts by the florist at the supermarket. Well, who doesn't need a little glitter in frozen January?
I heard about this Bloom Day for the first time last week (reading blogs is quite new to me)and I think it is a great idea. I have a beautiful orchid - but it will have to wait til next month for me to post anything.
ReplyDeleteThe amaryllis is stunning - your photography skills are amazing.
Wow, I love the color of your amaryllis blossoms! My amaryllis has been teasing me, it has a flower stem that has not opened yet and I can hardly wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteHi Salix: I've been slow to catch onto Garden Bloggers Bloom Day myself. Didn't realize until tonight that this was the day - thankfully, I had already taken the picture. Thanks for your compliment on my pictures. I've worked hard on my photography. A good DSLR with macro lens is what I used here.
ReplyDeleteHi Hilery: Welcome, thanks for visiting, and I hope you'll enjoy your amaryllis soon!
Cheers, Yvonne
That is just beautiful Yvonne...I hate to admit it but my amaryllis is still in the basement in bulb form!!! Whoops! A beautiful photo as usual and I bet you could even make those glittery poinsettias into a stunning photograph as well!!
ReplyDeleteCheers Yvonne...warmer weather is on the way!
Your amaryllis is beautiful. Mines still just a little stub. I'm hoping it will make it to full bloom for February's bloom day. We'll see.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful amaryllis and indeed we do need flowers like that in mid-January!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining in for bloom day.
