So it's the first day of fall, but where are you, Blessed Autumn? Sure, the sun goes down earlier now, and we had a touch of frost a week ago, but this long, hot, record dry summer* just won't quit.
By late September, we should be breathing easier with cool temperatures, and digging out our sweaters, but what do we get? A humidex today of 33°C (91.4°F), and next week's forecast predicts continued warm weather, with every day above the seasonal average.
There's rain in the forecast for Tuesday and we sure need it. It rained a couple of weeks ago - over several days we got 4/10ths of an inch twice and then 2/10ths again, which totaled a miraculous inch. The lawn greened up, at least where it hadn't died, but now it's very dry again. And I'm just too over-extended with projects and our renovation to continue hauling hoses.
So Dear Autumn, favorite season of mine, please, please, come as soon as you can, and kick this nasty, horrid summer out for good.
*I call it the summer from hell
